Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to deal with the optimization of engine operational parameters such as load, compression ratio and blend percentage of fuel using a combined approach of particle swarm optimization (PSO) with Derringer’s desirability.
Design/methodology/approach
The performance parameters such as brake thermal efficiency (BTHE), brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), CO, HC, NOx and smoke are considered as objectives with compression ratio, blend percentage and load as input factors. Optimization is carried out by using PSO coupled with the desirability approach.
Findings
From results, the optimum operating conditions are found to be at compression ratio of 18.5 per cent of fuel blend and 11 kg of load. At this input’s parameters of the engine, outputs performance parameters are found to be 34.84 per cent of BTHE, 0.29 kg/kWh of BSFC, 2.86 per cent of CO, 13 ppm of HC, 490 ppm of NOx and 26.25 per cent of smoke.
Originality/value
The present study explores the abilities of both particle swarm algorithm and desirability approach when used together. The combined approach resulted in faster convergence and better prediction capability. The present approach predicted performance characteristics of the variable compression ratio engine with less than 10 per cent error.

Abstract
Purpose
Innovation and entrepreneurship are regarded as the key drivers to steer the engine of economic development in any nation. As a result, to understand the context and process of innovation and entrepreneurship there has been a steady rise in scientific literature and empirical studies. The purpose of this paper is to study the trends and progress of academic research on innovation and entrepreneurship in India by identifying the key articles, journals, authors and institutions.
Design/methodology/approach
Scientometric methods especially bibliometrics is used, for measuring the maturity of this research field in the country. The paper studies the research landscape in innovation and entrepreneurship in India by doing a bibliometric analysis using data from publications indexed in the Scopus database from the year 2000 to 2018. The study takes a multidisciplinary review of the literature in innovation and entrepreneurship research in India and could be used as a reference for future studies in this theme.
Findings
The study finds an increase in the scholarly studies in innovation and entrepreneurship in India in the last decade. It was also found that a large number of publications were joint-authored and collaborations between Indian and foreign universities is happening. The paper also highlights the authorship patterns, top journals and the most cited papers.
Research limitations/implications
A major limitation of this study is that it has considered publications which are indexed in Scopus. This paper has contributed by highlighting the growth of studies in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship in the Indian context. The results can be used by future studies in this area as a starting point to highlight the nature of this research area.
Originality/value
The study attempts to present a trend analysis of published literature on innovation and entrepreneurship in India.

Abstract
Purpose
The Internet of Things (IoT), as one of the new digital technologies, has created wide applications in various industries, and one of the most influential industries of this technology is the transportation industry. By integrating the IoT with the transportation industry, there will be dramatic changes in the industry, and it will provide many entrepreneurial opportunities for entrepreneurs to develop new businesses. Opportunity identification is at the heart of the entrepreneurial process, and entrepreneurs identify innovative goods or services to enter a new market by identifying, evaluating, and exploiting opportunities. Despite the desire of transportation managers to invest in the IoT and the increase in research in this area, limited research has focused on IoT-based entrepreneurial opportunities in the transportation industry. Therefore, the present study aims to identify IoT-based entrepreneurial opportunities in the transportation industry and examine their importance.
Design/methodology/approach
To achieve the research objective, the authors applied a mixed approach. First, adapting the lens of the industry value chain theory, a comprehensive literature review, besides a qualitative approach including semi-structured interviews with experts and thematic analysis, was conducted to identify the entrepreneurial opportunities. The identified opportunities were confirmed in the second stage using a quantitative survey method, including the Student t-test and factor analysis. Finally, the identified opportunities were weighted and ranked using the best worst method (BWM).
Findings
Entrepreneurial opportunities are classified into five main categories, including “smart vehicles”, “business partners/smart transportation supply side”, “supporting services”, “infrastructures”, and “smart transport management and control”. The infrastructures group of opportunities ranked the highest amongst the identified groups.
Originality/value
This study adds to the digital entrepreneurship opportunity recognition literature by addressing opportunities in a smart industry propelled by digital technologies, including developing new products or new applications of the available technologies. Additionally, inspired by the industry value chain theory, this article develops a framework including various digital entrepreneurial opportunity networks which are necessary to add value to any industry and, thus, could be applied by entrepreneurs to recognize opportunities for new intermediaries to enter other digital-based industries. Finally, the present study identifies the IoT-based entrepreneurial opportunities in the smart transportation industry and prioritizes them, providing practical insights regarding the creation of entrepreneurial ecosystems in the field of smart transportation for entrepreneurs and policymakers.
